Our project on East End Avenue offered an exciting design challenge: our clients fell in love with the views of the East River from this postwar co-op but wanted it to feel more like the classic NYC prewar buildings in the neighborhood. We created a focal point with molding details in the living space, selected prewar-inspired cabinetry doors, and chose a contemporary color palette of charcoal grey and crisp white, paired with navy, greens, and soft pinks.
The apartment was originally two units and was combined and renovated in the 80’s. The layout was awkward and lacked function for our client’s family of five. We gutted the interior walls to maximize space and gain a valuable 4th bedroom and 3rd full bathroom.
The kitchen was expanded to accommodate a 48” paneled fridge, 48” range, and much needed tall pantry storage. The design also incorporated a banquette storage bench wrapping down from the base cabinets. The storage offered space for craft supplies and became our clients favorite spot to sit with a coffee and watch the ferries on the East River.
